Car Buying Power- Not Really

So my husband’s car decides to act up last week. It got so bad we had to carpool to work, more on that topic later,  anyway he decides he wants to go to a dealership on Saturday. Did I mention that the day was  Wednesday. I’m like I really don’t want to go to a dealership, so I was like we’ll see.  However, my husband decides to go get a pre-approval letter and look up some cars just in case. Saturday comes and he leaves togo play softball, so I decide to clean and figured we weren’t go to the car dealership. Well little did I know he comes home around 6 and says you want to ride with me to the car dealership. I’m like are you serious, you leave early this morning and still in here in the evening and now you want to go to a dealership. I already said I didn’t want to be at no car dealership especially for three to four hours, you know how they do, so I’m really ticked off. Anyway we end u at the dealership and I’m like lets just cut to the chase, “we’re here for this car.” We show him the pre-approval letter and proceed from there. Everything is good until we say who we’re going through. Well I guess the loan officer didn’t like who we pick because she still tries to send us through their finance company (Volkswagen). I was so heated, like didn’t you hear what we said, did you not read the letter.

Long story short after much attitude, coming from me because of their failure to pay attention, we drove off the lot with a 2017 Passat. The blessing is that we didn’t put any money down or trade in anything, we used our finance company that we wanted and with all those extra issues we were only there for about two hours.  The question is what would you have done at the dealership if they would have tried to go with someone other than your pre-approval letter?
