Well hello roundtable, welcome back, so glad to have you back at the table. This discussion is going to focus around the wonderful world of social media. Yes, I’m going to talk about something everyone has talked about at one point or another. Well my first question is do you feel that social media is relevant? Well I can virtually see all those minds thinking yes, no, maybe, depends. Well my simple answer is yes it does. Why? Our world today has become increasingly technical. We rely heavily on computers and phones, two huge electronic devices that keep us informed. Now if I would have asked this question a decade or so ago I probably would have said no it’s not relevant, would be cool, but not relevant. Social media like any other thing that has been created can have its positives and negatives. I don’t want to harp on either not in this blog, but I do want to say if you’re not involved in it and you’re still able to function or stay current with the world than more power to you, however if you own your own business, starting a new business, are a parent, can’t travel as much, see where I’m going with this, or anything of the sort than learning a little more about social media is big. You know I forgot to say if you work in a field of public relations corporate America than you should pay attention too. You need to learn the basics of social media and learn at least two platforms.
There are so many platforms, but you don’t need all of them neither do businesses. You need what’s relevant for your company or you as a person. Facebook is big for everyone individuals and businesses alike. At bear minimum you need to have a Facebook account for yourself or your business. The next is dependent upon how you’re going to use it, which is Twitter or Instagram. I did not have an Instagram account but after networking with another author I see that it’s very beneficial in connecting me to illustrators and events. It give same ideas on different marketing techniques as well as possible book ideas. I created a twitter but not for my books it was created for this blog. That’s right I tweet my blogs as well as upload them to Facebook, so if you miss my blog website you can still find us on social media. I also have networked with other photographers and people in general. No, social media is not just for businesses, my kids have social media accounts too. They just use them for personal play such as Snapchat. A great social media platform but seems to have gained more popularity with the younger generation. I like Snapchat but for a business if you do not have viable content than it does you no justice. I’m an author, so not too many snaps stories about that.
I could go on and on about social media, but I want to hear your thoughts on it. Let me know what you think, but keep it respectful. I want to hear whether you like it or not and is it relevant? See you at the next discussion.
